The following details our Privacy Policy (the “Policy’) at Ohio Equine Industry Coalition (”OEIC”) and describes the types of information we gather from those persons visiting the Internet website(s) www.ohioequineindustry.org (the “Site(s)”) and how we use such information. We understand the importance of privacy and accordingly, treat all information received in a responsible manner. This Policy applies to all of the services offered by OEIC (the “services”) on the Sites. By accessing the Sites, you agree to be bound by the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not use the Sites. Each time you use the Site(s), the current version of the Privacy Policy will apply. Accordingly, when you use the Site(s), you should check the date of this Policy (which appears at the top) and review any changes since the last version.

Use of Information Collected by Us

OEIC may collect two types of information from users of our Sites: “personal information” (such as name, e-mail address, mailing address, phone number, etc.) and “aggregate information” (such as frequency of visits to any of the Sites, search terms entered, Site pages most frequently accessed, browser type, etc.)

We use this information in an effort to improve your experience on the Site(s) and to communicate with you about information that you request. We may also use this information to help us target specific services or offers to you, to help us develop and improve our Site(s), and to tailor our Site(s) to your interests. Collecting and Using Your Personal Information

OEIC only collects personal information that is voluntarily provided when users sign up for a membership account, when a user signs-in to comment in our news section. Specifically, when you sign up for a membership account, we ask you for personal information such as your name, address, email address, and phone number. When you sign-in to comment in our news section, we ask you for personal information, such as a username and e-mail address.

Collecting and Using Your Aggregate Information

OEIC also collects aggregate information, which is non-personally identifiable information about you, such as frequency of visits to the Site(s), search terms entered, browser type, etc. Aggregate information is used in a collective manner, and no single person can be identified by that compiled information. OEIC uses aggregate information to provide its services and remuneration, as well as to determine the use of our Site(s) and to monitor, audit and analyze information pertaining to our business metrics.

Sharing, Selling and Trading of Your Personal Information Collected Online with Third Parties

OEIC will not share, rent, sell or disclose your personal information to affiliated third parties, except as described in this Privacy Policy. OEIC shares personal information within our association, and on occasion, we may allow third parties to send materials that may be of interest to our members. These third party service providers will not view, retain, share, store or use your personal information. In addition, in order to protect against potential fraud, we may verify with third parties the personal information you provide. In the course of such verification, we may receive personal information about you.

We do not sell, trade or otherwise share your personal information with unrelated third parties for their own marketing purposes.

In following circumstances, OEIC may elect to share or transfer your personal information to unrelated third parties:

  1. to comply with a legal requirement, judicial proceeding, court order, or legal process served on OEIC,
  2. to investigate a possible crime, such as fraud or identity theft;

If users choose to have their personal information displayed on the Site(s), they will be given forewarning that the action they are about to take will make their personal information publicly available on the Site(s).

Sharing, Selling and Trading Aggregate Information Collected Online with Third Parties

We may share, sell or trade with third parties aggregated, non-personal information, such as the number of users who searched for a particular term, for example, or how many users clicked on a particular advertisement. As stated earlier, such information does not identify you individually.

We review our data collection, storage and processing practices to ensure that we only collect, store and process the personal information needed to provide or improve our services. We take reasonable steps to ensure that the personal information we process is accurate, complete, and current, but we depend on our users to update or correct their personal information whenever necessary.

Tips for Writing Op-Eds and Letters to the Editor

  • Keep it current.
  • Keep it short.
  • Have one point on one issue.
    • Don’t water down your message on multiple issues.
  • If possible, reference a specific story or a specific reporter.
  • Make your personal “relevance” clear.
    • What are your credentials or your experiences that make you credible?
  • Stick with the facts and not emotional arguments.
  • Do not use industry slang or jargon.
  • Write for the paper’s circulation.
    • A letter or an Op-Ed sent to the Plain Dealer or the Dispatch shouldn’t be the same as one sent to the Lima News or the Ripley Bee.
  • Make it relevant for the paper’s circulation.
  • If submitting an Op-Ed, it is perfectly acceptable to call and ensure it arrived and the staff doesn’t have any questions. Make sure to leave contact information.
  • Contact Legislators Tips

As part of our grass roots initiatives, from time to time, we will be asking for our members to contact legislators on behalf of the OEIC on particular issues. In addition, our hope is that we will raise the political consciousness of our members and you very well may want to write a local, state, or federal, legislator on an un-related issue. To that end, we have provided some tips for successful communication with elected officials:

    • Don’t be intimidated. They “work” for you. Look at it this way. Your input helps them do their job.
    • Don’t worry about salutations.
      • Addressing the letter/e-mail to “The Honorable … ” is always safe.
    • You don’t need to choose between e-mail and writing a letter.
      • Chances are, the aide or the person designated to receive e-mails and the one going through the mail on that particular day may not be the same person. That said, too much paper is overwhelming for anyone so please only send one copy per method.
    • Don’t be afraid to call. If it’s important.
      • Just as there are noise-canceling headphones, offices of elected officials have a tendency to learn to tune out “white noise.” While a phone call can be a very effective method of getting your point across and ensuring that you are heard, we recommend saving phone calls for officials with whom you have a “First Name” relationship and on critical issues.
    • Write to YOUR legislator/elected official.
      • One letter or specially-timed phone call from a constituent equals 10 or 20x that amount of communication from non-constituents. You should make it known early in your communication that you are a voter. That said, on critical issues where it is important that all legislators hear a particular message or receive particular facts/figures, it is acceptable to send a letter to all members of a committee or all members of a particular legislative body.
    • Be respectful.
    • Be Specific.
    • Be succinct.
      • Your letter/e-mail may or may not even get read. That’s the reality. It may just get filed in a particular issue folder. If it does get read, chances are the reader won’t be closely scrutinizing grammar and sentence structure. It will be a glance. Make your point early in the communication and often.
    • Make it personal.
      • Never make any correspondence sound like a cold, impersonal form letter. Write from your perspective and your experience.
    • Whenever possible, reference a specific bill or a specific action.
    • Be aware of the legislative schedule
      • Send letter/e-mail to the statehouse or the district depending on where the legislator is likely to be.
    • Don’t be intimidated.

    Advocacy

    Overview

The pre-eminent assets of the equine industry are its people and the passion they possess for their involvement with the equine. The goal of the Ohio Equine Industry Coalition and specifically its grass roots initiatives is to harness that passion and utilize it for the betterment of the industry.

    Grass Roots Captains

To that end, it is our desire to identify a grass roots captain in each Ohio county. This person would be responsible for disseminating information from the OEIC in Columbus to their respective counties, as well as reporting news from that county back to the OEIC. If you have any interest in being considered for a position in your county, please contact us at oeic@ohioequineindustry.org.

    Survey/Assets

Also, with each new member information “packet,” we will be including a grass roots survey that we ask our members to complete. It will help us better target and mobilize efforts in the future. If you are a member and have not filled out a survey, please go here. If you are not yet a member, but are interested in helping the OEIC on its issues, please feel free to fill out the survey as well.
